Hi, I'm Renata!

Whatever you’re seeking, I’m glad you’re here!

From processing past traumas to combating the anxiety and overwhelm that comes with being everything to everybody, I specialize in helping women (re)gain a sense of calm, joy, and self amid the struggles of life.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe good therapy is challenging yet warm, providing structure and empathy for your unique experience. It is a collaborative process built upon connection, vulnerability, and trust. A process that utilizes personalized, evidence-based support to promote meaningful change through compassionate self-reflection and authentic conversation.

Therapy is an investment of your time, finances, and emotional space/trust. It is my honor to support you in navigating the complexities of your experience, so you can live your best life- whatever that looks like for you!

A deeper dive into my personal and professional journey:

I never aspired to become a therapist. Instead, it was my innate fascination with people that led me to obtain my bachelor’s in psychology from San Diego State and a master’s in Family/Systems Therapy from the University of Houston- Clear Lake- An educational pursuit that’s been more fulfilling than I ever could have imagined. Along the way, I gained the courage to embark on my own therapeutic journey, which freed me from inhibiting attitudes and fears I didn’t even know existed. Flashforward nearly two decades, and I feel immense gratitude that I stumbled into a career that allows me to be endlessly curious about the complexities of the human experience.

My career started in the nonprofit sector, where I gained extensive training and experience in the social, emotional, and behavioral development of children and the clinical treatment of trauma. During this time, I worked with diverse backgrounds, personalities, and presenting issues, providing individual, family, and group therapy in various treatment settings.

In 2013, I became a mom. This life-altering event ignited a personal and professional desire to pivot and acquire advanced training in perinatal mental health care. I have since served as both the Program Director and longtime board member with the San Diego Postpartum Health Alliance, in which I developed a PMADs 101 online course, provided community and clinical training, and continue to update their educational material/content.

In addition to providing individual therapy, I researched, developed, and continue to facilitate, San Diego Mommy and Me, a supportive and educational group series for new moms that has since brought together and served over 500 women.

Outside of therapy, I’m a wife and mother to two wild boys that provide our lives with a daily dose of chaos and joy. The ocean is my happy place, cheese is my obsession, and hummingbirds are my spirit animals. Bottomline- As a mom, I know ALL moms need support. As a therapist, I’m committed to ensuring women receive the same care and consideration they so freely provide to others.

To ensure I am the right fit for you, I am happy to offer a free 15-minute consultation to learn about you/your therapeutic goals and answer any questions you may have!
