Hi, I'm Julie!
Congratulations on taking this brave first step!
Finding a therapist you really click with is an incredible experience. I am here to offer a truly compassionate, non-judgmental, insightful space in which you can heal.
My style as a therapist is warm, collaborative, strengths-based, and adapted to what you need most. Sometimes that is the space to just talk to someone who really gets it. Other times you might ask for a bit of guidance and direction, aligned with your own values and goals. Other times a mindfulness exercise, a suggested topic for journaling, or a new skill to try at home might be what helps most. I draw from twelve years as a licensed therapist, a multitude of client experiences, and specialized trainings in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-Focused Couple’s Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, to guide my work. A little bit of humor and my own life as a mom of three are helpful too!

A deeper dive into my personal and professional journey:
I’ve always liked the saying “Your head is a dangerous neighborhood; try not to go there alone.” This is especially true when the bully in our own minds goes on the attack. In my own life, parenting seemed to hand my inner critic a megaphone! I had graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Human Development, even winning an award for my work with young children. I went on to run a preschool program for years and was everyone’s favorite teacher. When I decided to return to my dream of becoming a therapist, I graduated USD with a 4.0 average and was invited back as an adjunct professor. Surely, I was going to get straight A’s in parenting! (Especially since I had read ALL the books!).
You can probably guess where this is going. 😊
As a new mom, I was absolutely blindsided. The impacts of chronic sleep deprivation, the anxiety, the changes in family dynamics, never knowing if I was doing it “right,” losing my sense of self… my mental health was suffering terribly, yet it was “supposed to be” the happiest time of my life. I feared I was a terrible mom. I worried about my marriage. I felt like I was failing most of the time.
Thank goodness, I already knew the life-changing impact of going to therapy. I was able to seek the support I needed to get my feet back under me and move forward. I have now been parenting for over a decade and welcomed two more babies into the world. Parenting will never be easy, but I make sure to get the right blend of community, support, and self-care that moms deserve!
Whatever is challenging you in this moment, you deserve the space to heal. I hope you will take the next step and contact me or another therapist to get started!
